mardi 18 avril - On va à l'école!

We had a fun day today observing classes at Collège George Sand and touring the 13ème arrondissement of Paris.

Madame Bascou and her students prepared a nice welcome bulletin board for us.

We were invited for coffee and pastries with the Principal of Collège George Sand.

Amber helping in Madame Bascou's English class

Amber and Andrea performed a English dialogue that one of Madame Bascou's had prepared.
It was between a job counselor and a job applicant.  It was very good!

A nice view from Collège George Sand

Having fun in the halls between classes

Madame Bascou's English class had done a project studying Chinese Zodiac Animals and Chinese New Year.  Most of Madame Bascou's 6th grade class are either Roosters or Monkeys.
Here is a picture of Madame Bascou looking up the Chinese Zodiac Animals of Denise and Haviland.

We found out they are a Rabbit and a Snake.

Now it's time for lunch!

The meal of the day.  Marinated beets, hachis parmentier (beef and potatoes), fruit salad, bread, cheese and water to drink.  C'était délicieux! Merci!

The school has a different club during lunch every day of the week, and Tuesday was Manga Club!
Three of the members made a presentation of their favorite Manga books.

Some Alcott students drew with other members of Manga Club.

Collège George Sand is in the 13ème arrondissement of Paris.
Lots of street art in this neighborhood, so we took an afternoon walk to check it out.

Il pleut!  It's raining!

Nice map of the neighborhood's street art, including works by Invader
and Shepard Fairey, the artist of the iconic Obama "hope" poster.

Hooray for the métro that we can walk under to get out of the rain!

Now for a trip to Monoprix, a large supermarket

A ready made meal of what we had for lunch in the cantine

It's common for eggs to not be refrigerated at the store

Milk is sold unrefrigerated, too, but you refrigerate it once you open it at home.

Returning to school at the end of the day
